Meet our Pastor - Rev. James Edward Nash
Rev. James E.
Nash is a native Houstonian, born April 19, 1938. He attended
Houston schools and graduated from Jack Yates High School.
After graduating from high school Rev. Nash joined the Marine
Corps in 1958, served three years and received an honorable
discharge in 1961.

He attended Union Bible College and received a degree in
Theology. Rev. Nash was employed at Central Packing Company
for fifth- teen years, and Baroid Oil Company as a supervisor
for eight years.
In 1982, Reverend James E. Nash was chosen by God and the
membership to serve as senior pastor and overseer. Pastor Nash
set the tone of love for God’s people through the
exemplification of Christ. Therefore, under his leadership the
church increased in membership, spirit and finances. The
church also became more active in the community.
Because of the growth of the membership, Rev. Nash saw the need
to build a new place for worship. Through hard work and
sacrifice the new edifice became a reality. In 1996, through
God, the pastor’s vision and the congregation’s support, we were
blessed with more property. In 1999 the new “Faith Hall” was
constructed to hold classes, host small banquets, meetings and
other various functions. In 2001 the hall was renamed “The
Willie Lee Manning Faith Hall”.
Pastor Nash being concerned about the community saw the need for
the community to be made safe for our families, senior citizens
and youth. Greater St. Paul “Thunderbolts and the
Lightingbolts' Drill Team was organized in 1991. They were
organized to involve and encourage the youth of the church and
community. These young people have gone on to win two national
championship. St. Paul M. B. C., also sponsors two parades a
year, involving the community, other churches and public
officials. The parade’s focus is marching against drugs, teen
violence and alcohol.
Pastor Nash is very involved in the community and several
organizations. Pastor Nash is the chairman of the “Sunnyside
Asian / African American Task Force”, a multi-cultural group
that was organized to focus on cultural differences and to
establish a better relationship with the store owners and the
community. The Task Force has traveled to Austin and Washington
to lobby for the “Hate Crime Act”.
Pastor Nash is a
member of the “Houston Ministers Against Crime” a liaison between
Houston Police Department and the community. The youth and youth
leaders are members of the YCEP ( Youth Cultural Exchange Program)
sponsored by city councilman Gordon Quan. Pastor Nash is a liaison
for the program. YCEP is a program that focuses on educating the
youth on understanding cultural differences.
In December 2001, Pastor Nash incorporated “ The Sunnyside Place
Community Development Corporation, Inc”. His vision for
the Community Development Corporation, will soon become a reality
with affordable housing units for senior citizens and low income
families.
Pastor Nash has always had the senior citizens and youth at heart.
Because of this, a place where our seniors and youth could gather in
a fun safe environment was created, “The Marcie L. Keys
Activity Center” which is a product of
the St. Paul Missionary
Baptist Church @ Brandon.
